According to the President’s statements, the National Combat Aircraft (MMU) or TF-X “Kaan” project, which will enter into the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces, is considered an important step for Turkey in the aviation and defense industry.
KAAN National Combat Aircraft Specifications
The design and development of the MMU are being carried out in collaboration with Turkish defense industry firms TUSAŞ, ASELSAN, and TEI. Among the features of the MMU are its 21-meter length, 14-meter wingspan, 6-meter height, and two F110 engines with a thrust of 29,000-32,500 lbs each or two TEI-produced engines with a thrust of 35,000 lbs each.
The MMU’s service ceiling is stated to be 55,000+ ft, its maximum speed is 1.8 Mach, and it has +9g/-3.5g G limits. It is said to have many avionics features, including a domestic AESA radar integrated RF system (BURFIS), synthetic aperture radar system (SAR), infrared search and track (IRST) sensor, electro-optical targeting system (EOTS), and helmet-mounted sight system developed by ASELSAN.
Other features that stand out for the MMU include its high maneuverability, powerful propulsion system, supersonic cruise capability, long operational radius, low radar visibility, sensor fusion, advanced data link capabilities, and the ability to launch high-precision munitions.
These features indicate that the MMU will play an important role in ensuring air superiority for the Turkish Air Force.
The MMU, Turkey’s National Combat Aircraft (TF-X) project, will be a completely domestic and original design. Developed by Turkish defense industry company TUSAŞ, this aircraft is designed to meet the needs of the Turkish Air Force. The aircraft will be equipped with many features such as high speed, maneuverability, stealth, avionics systems, and weapon systems.
